Lady Mules sweep Morton/White Pass, down Onalaska 3-1

The Wahkiakum Mules volleyball team is on a roll. They won two more games this week and brought their record to 2-0 in league and 6-1 overall.

The Mules beat Morton White Pass at home last Thursday in their first league contest of the season. They won in three sets: 25-15, 25-19, and 26-24. The Timberwolves put up their biggest fight in the third set, but the Mules pulled from behind to take the game and the match.

"My girls did a much better job tonight of coming out ready to play in set one," Coach Kayli Hurley said. "That was a focus for us and they made it happen."

Macie Elliott and Ellie Leitz led the team with five kills each. Grayci Thomas had 11 assists. Hurley praised Solana Stanley for a "stellar serve receive average."

The Mules played in Onalaska on Tuesday and beat the Loggerettes in four sets: 10-25, 25-22, 25-20, and 25-20.

"Coming out in the first set, it seemed like we couldn't get anything put together," Hurley said. "That was a tough set, but these girls are resilient. After a rough start to set two, they pulled through and found a way to battle back mentally and take the set. From there was work, but definitely smoother sailing on our side. As always, our bench and the energy they bring play a huge role in our momentum. That was important for us tonight."

"Ellie Leitz turned it on offensively in set two and kept it rolling through set four with nine kills," Hurley added. "Charlie Ashe and Macie Elliott picked up some big digs and Jansi Merz and MJ Neves came through with some huge ace runs from the service line."

The Mules travel to Toutle Lake tonight (Thursday) and play their next home game on Tuesday against Toledo.
