N/GRV School Board Meeting Notes

The Naselle-Grays River Valley School District Board of Directors met for its monthly meeting on September 19.

During the meeting, several personnel matters were approved. The board approved the hire of Katherine Klinger, middle school volleyball coach and three para- educators in Davana Drake, Andrea Pellervo and Shana Kelly.

In other business, the board approved the following policies: 1410 Executive Sessions, 3115 Homeless Students, 3116 Students in Foster Care, 3122 Student Absences, 3416 Medication at School, 3432 Student Emergencies, 5005 Employment & Verification, 6220 Bid Requirements, and 6580 Continuity of Operations.

Along with the board policies, others items of business were addressed:

The Title I Plan and Highly Capable plans for 2017-18 were approved. The board approved a three year contract with the classified employee union at Naselle for the 2017-2020 school years. Board Resolution 2017-9-19 was approved, allowing newly elected board members to attend the Washington State School Directors Association Conference for training and teambuilding. The fuel bids of Wilcox & Flegel and Ferrell Gas were accepted for the year. Finally, the board approved overnight travel for fall sports and activities along with the purchase of computers from which the district had received a grant from the Rural Education Consortium.

K-12 Principal Quinn Donlon discussed the building’s goals along with an overview of PBIS, the new student behavior intervention system.

Superintendent Lisa Nelson reported that enrollment had grown about 12 additional students over the summer and that the district’s enrollment had experienced a 22 percent increase since September of 2015.

The next regularly scheduled board meeting is October 17 at 6:30 p.m. in the middle school commons.
