Highlights of calls for service in recent days

Wahkiakum County law enforcement officers and emergency response personnel handled a variety of reports during the past week, including:

August 14 — 12:53 p.m. Following advice from a bank, a Rosburg resident reported receiving a large, fraudulent check in the mail. 4:24 p.m. A caller heard two men and a woman involved in a disturbance at a home on West Valley Road. 5:10 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided an individual with chest pain in the Elochoman Valley. 7:07 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Skamokawa resident who was confused and complaining of pain. 9:07 p.m. Child Protective Services requested assistance while they retrieved two children from a home in Cathlamet. 10:47 p.m. An individual was taken into custody after a Rosedale resident reported that his girlfriend had bit and cut him.

August 15 — 9:28 a.m. A Skamokawa resident reported that a neighbor was ignoring her complaints about his dog which she said was harassing her animals and defecating in her yard. The complainant called again on August 18 and 19 to say it was still happening. 1:42 p.m. A Rosedale resident requested a deputy for a civil standby. 7:44 p.m. A caller reported that a bicycle had been stolen while he was at the Julia Butler Hansen Refuge for Columbian White-tailed Deer. 7:44 p.m. A caller reported that two dogs had tried to attack his dog on the Julia Butler Hansen Refuge for Columbian White-tailed Deer. 8:27 p.m. A caller reported seeing two men sitting on the side of a Puget Island road. One appeared to be vomiting. 10:41 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Puget Island resident who had fallen.

August 16 — 9:15 a.m. Deputies, the District 4 Fire Department, and the Cathlamet ambulance responded when a tree fell on a moving vehicle on SR 4 just west of County Line Park. No injuries were reported. 12:10 p.m. A caller reported that his neighbors were parking in the Legion Hall parking lot despite instructions not to do so. 2:03 p.m. The Grays River ambulance aided a Grays River resident with complications due to diabetes. 2:30 p.m. A caller reported elder abuse at a Cathlamet home. 2:49 p.m. An individual was taken into custody on a warrant in Deep River. 4:23 p.m. A deputy and the Cathlamet Fire Department responded to the report of an illegal burn in Skamokawa. The fire was extinguished. 5:17 p.m. A caller reported that a resident in the Rosedale area had failed to report as a sex offender.

August 17 — 10:27 p.m. A Deep River resident complained that his neighbor’s cows had repeatedly gotten out and were damaging his property. 1:35 p.m. A caller reported that someone was setting up a tent alongside SR 4 in the Rosedale area. 3:42 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Cathlamet resident who had fallen. 4:18 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Cathlamet resident who may have suffered a stroke. 6:37 p.m. A caller reported an erratic driver heading west on SR 4 from Cowlitz County pulling a trailer with cows in it. 6:39 p.m. A caller reported a speeding driver on SR 4 in the Elochoman Valley area. 8:11 p.m. A Skamokawa resident complained that she had to chase the neighbor’s dog off her property three times that day.

August 18 — 4:43 p.m. An individual was taken into custody after a vehicle stop on SR 4 in the Cathlamet area.

August 19 — 6:38 p.m. A caller reported that buses carrying logging crews were speeding on East Valley Road. 12:18 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Puget Island resident complaining of chest pain. 3:19 p.m. A caller reported seeing a small dog running down a Puget Island road. 4:02 p.m. The sheriff’s office was asked to be on the lookout for a stolen vehicle. 4:08 p.m. A Grays River resident reported that his cow had been shot. 7:32 p.m. The sheriff’s office was asked to be on the lookout for a vehicle involved in a hit and run accident in Astoria.

August 20 — 1:42 a.m. A caller reported a domestic disturbance at a Grays River home. 7:29 a.m. A caller reported that a truck and trailer were parked and obstructing traffic on Oneida Road near the boat launch. 9:43 a.m. A caller reported that the coin box for showers was stolen from the marina in Cathlamet. 12:47 p.m. A Cathlamet resident reported hearing shots fired. 6:12 p.m. The sheriff’s office was asked to be on the lookout for a Vancouver resident with dementia and diabetes after he failed to show up to church. 8:17 p.m. The Grays River ambulance aided a Rosburg resident who had fallen and may have broken a hip. 10:45 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Beaver Creek resident with a hip injury.
