George K. Coulter, longtime Cathlamet resident, died July 16, 2017 at Community Hospice in Longview. George was born in Alhambra, Calif., to George and Carol (Underhill) Coulter. After moving to Washington, George’s family lived on Bunker Hill and he graduated from R.A. Long High School in 1958. George graduated with an AA degree from LCC. He joined the Navy in 1962 where he spent four years. George's first wife Joy preceded him in death in 1971. He married Betty Conway in 1972 and she survives him at home.
He worked as a pipefitter at Weyerhaeuser after the military, retiring in 1996. He then worked at Trojan during the decommissioning.
He was a talented man and enjoyed building two homes in Cathlamet. He loved fishing with his friends Karl Johnson, Ted Clark and Rick Shaw. He spent his retirement bee keeping, gardening and restoring old cars and helping friends and family.
In addition to Betty, George is survived by Duane Coulter and Christopher (Vicki) Coulter, a daughter Catherine Johnson-Coulter (Jeffry Hartshorn), two sisters Carol Mahnke (Peter) and Patti Senter, seven grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded by a son Aubrey Coulter, a brother Bill Coulter and an infant sister Phyliss. A celebration of George's life will be held on Sunday July 30 at 1 p.m., at Steele Chapel in Longview. Donations in George’s name may be made to Community Home Health and Hospice, P.O. Box 2065, Longview,WA 98632. Dowling Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
