Make your donations of food or cash to the pantry

Down River Dispatches

It’s definitely summer. The hay fields are full of activity, and I am missing the rain. My house has been filled with family for nearly two months, and it looks like that will change by the time this paper is published. Back to quiet times again, and believe me, I will miss that.

Please remember the West End Food Pantry when you are out doing your own grocery shopping. Pick up an extra can or two of soup, canned meats, canned fruit or veggies, add a few items to your cart to help out the pantry with "kid friendly" ready-to-eat or easy-to-prepare food items, such as breakfast cereal, peanut butter and jelly, top ramen, Spaghettios, mac-n-cheese, spaghetti and spaghetti sauce, fruit juices, granola bars, pudding or Jello cups. You can bring your donations to the Pantry, located in the Grays River Valley Center at Johnson Park (old Rosburg School) 1-5 p.m. on Thursdays. If not on Thursday, you can deposit in the drop box outside the door on the north end of the building, during the time the building is open. Monetary donations can be sent to PO Box 55, Rosburg, WA 98643. If you need more information or have a question, you can contact Shonda Ware at 465-2722.

Mark your calendar for August 4-6 for this year’s Pig Roast/Pot Luck and Campout in Rosburg at the home of Poul and Zenaida Toftemark. Enjoy their beautiful property with lots of activities for the whole family, including swimming, volleyball, tetherball, basketball and football, karaoke on the stage, with the possibility of a band on Saturday.

For your own comfort bring your lawn chairs, drinks of choice, a dish or two to share and lifejackets for the kids. Lunch will be served on Saturday afternoon around 3 to 4 p.m. Poul should have the pig roasted by then.

New hours for the Grays River Cafe. They are open on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Now serving breakfast, lunch and dinner. We had their steak and seafood dinners last weekend and everything was cooked to perfection. Great service as well. If you want take-out you can call 465-2999.
