County closing Covered Bridge Road for repairs

At the July 5 Wahkiakum County Board of Commissioner’s meeting, commissioners listened to concerns from Puget Island residents about inland sand disposal on Puget Island and conducted business as usual.

A bid in the amount of $28,976.91 from Peterson Caterpillar to repair an excavator was approved by commissioners.

The commissioners approved a motion to close Covered Bridge Road from July 24 until August 31 for the repair of slide damage that occurred during the storm of 2015.

“We have secured FEMA funding for the project and are ready to get it fixed, Chuck Beyer, Wahkiakum County Public Works Director said. “For speed of completion we need to close the road except for a case of an emergency vehicle.”

Only one bid was received for hauling the recycle bins. It was from Stanley Sanitary Service in the amount of $50,310.19, and the board accepted the bid at its July 11 meeting.

Finally, commissioners approved a board chair signature on a contract between Cascade Pacific Action Alliance and Wahkiakum County Health and Human Services. The contract provides $10,000 to support a Children’s Mental Health Therapist that works for the county and at the Wahkiakum School District.
