Down River Dispatches
Made a quick trip to California over the weekend to get my granddaughters home for Father’s Day. We left here at 4 a.m. on Friday morning and it was raining, arriving in Stockton at about 4:30 p.m. to excruciating heat. More heat the next day, and I left at 4 a.m. on Sunday morning to escape the 110 degrees slated for that day. Made it home in less than 11 hours to our beautiful weather.
News from Naselle:
Looking for a fun family event? The annual Friends of the Naselle Library community picnic will be held this year on Tuesday at the library. Picnic starts at 5 p.m., and burgers and hotdogs will be provided. Bring a dish to share and a lawn chair to relax in while you listen to live music.
In the meantime, stop by the library this week to view the auction items available to bid on. Bidding is open until the day of the picnic. One of the special items is a gorgeous, one of a kind quilt, donated by Vicky DaVall.
Westend news:
If your kids are looking for something fun to do, check out some of the local churches and find out when they have scheduled vacation bible school. The Valley Bible Church in Rosburg will hold their vacation bible school from July 10-13 from 9 a.m. to noon. Kids from kindergarten to fifth grade are welcome. For more info please contact Tari Zimmerman at 465-2147.
The West End Food Pantry is open on Thursdays, 1-5 p.m., and is located at Johnson Park (old Rosburg School). Summertime is a difficult time for many families who may rely on school lunch programs for at least one nutritional meal each day. That’s where the food pantries need help with providing more items for those families who need extra items during the summer recess from school. You can donate canned meats, cereal, soups, canned fruits, etc. to the Food Pantry on Thursdays during the hours they are open. If you prefer to donate cash, that money is used to supplement items that they do not have in their inventory.
The Rosburg Wednesday Senior Lunch Bunch meets every week in the Rosburg Hall for a home cooked meal prepared and served by Pat Potter and her volunteers.
On Thursdays, CAP also sponsors a senior lunch at the above location. Lunch is served at noon for both venues.
Happy Birthday to the following: Dee Nikkila, Sophie Scrabek, Vanessa Engelson, Amber Haataia, Mitzi Hunter, Garth Ullakko and Ella Zilli. Wishing each of you a wonderful day.
Happy Anniversary to Stacy and Rachel Katyryniuk, Rob and Elizabeth Dalton and Joel and Noreen Fitts. Here's to many more celebrations together.
It looks like more company for me in the next couple of weeks and that makes me really happy. With the 4th of July approaching and some of my kids working in jobs that prevent them from all coming at the same time, it will mean that I will have family over a longer span of time and a little more individual time with each of the families. I love family time.
