Wahkiakum County law enforcement officers and emergency response personnel handled a variety of reports during the past week, including:

In a four-day holiday emphasis patrol, officers issued 203 warnings to drivers for issues such as speed, dysfunctional lights, expired vehicle registration, not visible license plates, not coming to a full stop and illegal passing. Another 13 warnings were issued May 22-24 for a total of 216 for the week.

May 22--8:58 a.m. An officer issued a citation to a driver for excessive speed at Milepost 32 on SR 4. 10:54 p.m. A Westend resident reported someone had stolen chainsaws; a security camera showed an unknown white pickup in the driveway. 2:35 p.m. A caller resident reported a possible case of child abuse; an officer investigated, and Children's Protective Services was advised. 8:18 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance responded to aid a Rosedale woman who was very ill.

May 23--10:33 a.m. An officer issued a citation to a driver at Milepost 32 on SR 4. 12:26 p.m. A Skamokawa area resident reported a neighbor was running cattle on his property. 1:08 p.m. An officer cited a motorist for having no vehicle insurance. 1:10 p.m. A caller reported a fallen limb was blocking the westbound lane of SR 4 east of Cathlamet. 2:17 p.m. An officer cited a motorist for having a vehicle title with incorrect, out dated information. 4 p.m. A Cathlamet youth fled his home, thinking there was an intruder; an officer investigated and found no one inside. 7:07 p.m. A clinic in Oregon requested a welfare check on a Puget Island woman who might be suicidal; an officer made contact, and the woman agreed to seek health care.

May 24--The Grays River ambulance responded to aid a man and who had had falls. 8:54 a.m. A caller said the woman who had been the subject of a welfare check the previous day hadn't followed through in seeking care; an officer was unable to contact the woman. 12:40 p.m. The Grays River ambulance responded to aid a man having breathing difficulty. 7:38 p.m. A Rosedale resident reported someone had broken into a rental house and trashed it. 7:53 p.m. A person brought a bobcat cub found at a logging site to the sheriff's office; dispatchers contacted the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife to take the animal.

May 25--11:54 a.m. and 12:09 p.m. An officer cited separate drivers for speeding on SR 4 east of Cathlamet. 7:53 p.m. A caller reported that a suspicious vehicle seen two weeks ago had returned; a deputy made contact and informed the occupants they were trespassing. 8:16 p.m. A Cathlamet resident reported a three-year-old boy had run away; he was located a few minutes later.

May 26--11:55 p.m. An officer cited a motorist for speeding on SR 4 west of Cathlamet. The Cathlamet ambulance responded to aid a Puget Island resident with mobility problems. 12:51 p.m. An officer cited a motorist on SR 4 west of Cathlamet for speeding and having no vehicle insurance. 1:17 p.m. An officer arrested a motorist for driving with a suspended license. 2:26 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance responded to aid a woman with very low blood pressure. 3:39 p.m. An officer cited a motorist for speeding on SR 4 west of Cathlamet. 3:45 p.m. An officer cited a motorist on SR 4 west of Cathlamet for having no vehicle insurance. 4:16 p.m. An officer cited a motorist on SR 4 west of Cathlamet for no vehicle insurance; he also issued a warning because of a lack of a front license plate. 4:42 p.m. An officer arrested a motorist after making a vehicle stop on SR 4 east of Cathlamet. 4:44 p.m. A Westend resident reported someone had stolen a vehicle. 5:44 p.m. An officer cited a motorist on SR 4 at Cathlamet for speeding. 5:59 p.m. An officer cited a motorist on SR 4 east of Cathlamet for speeding. 6:17 p.m. A Puget Island resident said a man who had been drinking was shooting a gun; an officer investigated but all was quiet. 7:15 p.m. An officer arrested a motorist after stopping a vehicle on SR 4 west of Cathlamet. 7:37 p.m. An officer arrested a motorist on SR 4 in Cathlamet. 8:41 p.m. A West Birnie Slough Road resident said someone's large dog was chasing goats; an officer was advised of the situation. 9:05 p.m. An officer arrested a motorist on SR 4 in Skamokawa for driving while being intoxicated. 10:16 p.m. A Puget Island resident reported people were shooting guns toward Coffee Pot Island; an officer responded but found no one around. 11:22 p.m. The Skamokawa ambulance responded to Skamokawa Vista Park to aid a person possibly having a seizure.

May 27--2:31 a.m. A caller reported cattle were out along the Altoona/Pillar Rock Road; the owner was contacted. 1:35 p.m. An officer cited a motorist on SR 4 in Cathlamet for having no vehicle insurance. 2:26 p.m. An officer cited a motorist on SR 4 east of Cathlamet for speeding. 2:30 p.m. A caller reported a woman was being exploited; an officer investigated. 2:38 p.m. A caller reported a man was out on a boat and he had been drinking all morning. 3:07 p.m. An Elochoman Valley woman said someone was messing around under her house; a deputy investigated and found no apparent damage. 3:33 p.m. An officer arrested a motorist after stopping a vehicle on the Elochoman Valley Road. 3:52 p.m. A caller reported seeing a dead eagle on one side of the Elochoman Valley Road in the 500 block and a dead deer on the other side of the road. 7:53 p.m. An officer cited a motorist for speeding on SR 4 near County Line Park. 7:10 p.m. A Rosedale resident said a woman was trespassing; an officer investigated and found that the woman had been injured in a fall; she requested no ambulance. 7:34 p.m. A caller asked officers to look out for a local man who might be suicidal. 8:24 p.m. An officer cited a motorist on SR 4 west of Cathlamet for speeding. 9:08 p.m. A caller said someone in a red truck tried to ram a white Jeep in Rosedale.

May 28--6:06 a.m. A caller reported people had been camping for two days without permission at an East Birnie Slough Road address. 11:27 a.m. An officer cited a motorist for speeding on SR 4 west of Cathlamet. 12:56 p.m. An East Valley resident requested extra patrols because of speeding vehicles. 1:53 p.m. An Elochoman Valley resident reported hearing gunshots. 2:47 p.m. An officer cited a motorist on SR 4 in Skamokawa for having no vehicle insurance. 2:55 p.m. An officer cited a motorist on SR 4 east of Cathlamet for excessive speed. 4:41 p.m. An officer arrested a motorist after stopping a vehicle on SR 4 at Cathlamet. 5:11 p.m. An officer cited a motorist in Rosedale for not wearing a seatbelt. 6:49 p.m. An officer cited a motorist for speeding on SR 4 east of Cathlamet. 7:09 p.m. An officer cited a motorist on SR 4 east of Cathlamet for speeding. 11:17 p.m. A caller reported hearing four shots in the woods 10 miles up the Elochoman Valley Road, a companion had responded with four warning shots.

May 29--1:23 a.m. A Rosedale resident reported a white car with people inside was parked in the driveway; one got out and walked away; at 1:33 p.m. a Washington State Patrolman reported a white vehicle had sped by at 65 mph; the vehicle was stopped and two juveniles were contacted. 10:06 p.m. An Elochoman Valley resident reported hearing shots fired. 10:14 p.m. A caller reported drivers in a black Mustang and a white pickup were speeding on North Welcome Slough Road. 1:07 p.m. An officer cited a motorist for speeding near the Puget Island bridge. 1:44 p.m. An officer cited another motorist for speeding near the Puget Island bridge. 2:41 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance responded to an Elochoman Valley address to aid a man with back trouble. 2:49 p.m. An officer cited a motorist for speeding on SR 4 east of Cathlamet. 3:06 p.m. An officer cited a motorist on SR west of Cathlamet for speeding and also administered field sobriety tests. 3:37 p.m. An officer cited a motorist for speeding on SR 4 west of Cathlamet. 4:22 p.m. A motorist reported people in a black Honda and on three motorbikes east bound on SR 4 from Skamokawa looked like they were engaged in road rage. 4:28 p.m. An officer cited a motorist on SR 4 west of Cathlamet for having no vehicle insurance. 5:10 p.m. An officer cited a motorist on SR 4 in Skamokawa for having no vehicle insurance. 5:29 p.m. An officer cited a motorist for speeding on SR 4 east of Cathlamet. 5:39 p.m. An officer cited a motorist on SR 4 west of Cathlamet for speeding and for driving on a suspended license. 6:31 p.m. An officer stopped a vehicle on SR 4 east of Cathlamet and arrested the driver after administering a field sobriety test; a second subject was taken into custody. 8:42 p.m. Portland police asked Wahkiakum officers to watch for a missing person who was suicidal.
