Five Wahkiakum Mule runners qualified for the state meet with good performances last Friday at the district meet at W.F. West High School in Centralia.
Competitors had to take seventh place or better in their event to move forward.
Sophomore Macie Elliott took second place and set a new personal record in the 400m with a time of 1:02.60. Senior Cheyenne Barton took seventh place in the same event with a time of 1:04.78.
Sophomore Ellie Leitz placed fifth in the 800m with a time of 2:32.90.
The three are joined by sophomores Charlie Ashe and Mckensi Fluckiger on the 800m and 1600m relay teams, which are also headed to state.
The 800m relay team of Barton, Ashe, Fluckiger, and Elliott finished in sixth place with a time of 1:53.46.
The 1600m relay team of Barton, Ashe, Leitz and Elliott placed third with a time of 4:20.65.
The State 2B Track and Field Meet takes place this weekend, May 25-27, on the Eastern Washington University Campus in Cheney. A few events begin on Thursday evening, but the preliminary heats begin for the Mules on Friday.
