Mules advance to semifinals in state baseball

The Wahkiakum Mules are in the final four of the state 2B baseball tournament.

On Saturday morning in the first round of regional state competition, the team faced Kettle Falls in a loser out game in Anacortes and won easily 12-2.

Hank Ferguson led the team on offense with a double and three RBIs. Terris Record went 1-3 and contributed three runs. Santos Wright was 2-3 with two RBIs. James Anderson and Ashden Niemeyer contributed one run apiece.

Record pitched all five innings. He allowed one hit, two runs and struck out six batters.

The win moved the team into the quarterfinals of the state tournament and another loser out game the same day, this time against Central League rival Toutle Lake. The Mules won 6-3.

Niemeyer had three RBIs and Zach Brown had one.

Anderson pitched six innings. He allowed four hits, two runs and struck out seven. Z. Brown came in and finished the game, pitching the final two innings. He allowed four hits, one run, and struck out four.

This Friday, the Mules will face Colfax in the semifinals in Centralia at Wheeler Field. The winner will play for first place in state on Saturday at 1 p.m. in Centralia at Wheeler Field. The loser will play at 10 a.m. for third and fourth places.
