Adna tops Mules for district title; regional playoffs start Saturday

The Wahkiakum Mules baseball team took second place in the district tournament on Monday after losing 10-2 to Adna.

The District 4 Championship game between the Mules and the Pirates was originally scheduled for Saturday afternoon but was postponed because of rain. The day changed, but the rain didn’t.

Four pitchers took the mound. They allowed six hits and 10 runs, and struck out only one batter between them.

Luke Brown was 2-4 at bat with a double. Ashden Niemeyer went 1-2 and had a double. Santos Wright and Zach Brown contributed one RBI apiece.

“We hit the ball well against Adna,” Coach Marc Niemeyer said, “we just have to clean things up and have less walks pitching.”

The Mules season continues with a loser out state regional game against Kettle Falls in Anacortes on Saturday at 10 a.m. The winner will play a second loser out game that day, but the season will be over for the losing team.

“Kettle Falls is the fourth seed out of the Northeast league,” Niemeyer said. “They’re a pretty tough team. It will be a battle. We’ve got to show up, throw strikes and play great defense.”
