Mules to play Adna for district title Saturday

The Wahkiakum Mules baseball team began postseason play on Saturday with two wins, which secured a trip to a regional state game on May 20. When they beat Napavine on Tuesday in the semifinals, they reserved a spot in the Southwest District 4 Championship game.

The Mules beat Toledo 1-0 in a loser out game last Saturday and landed in one of the four remaining spots open in the district bracket. While Toledo headed home, the Mules warmed up for their second game of the day against the number two Pacific League team, Life Christian Academy.

The Mules soundly beat the Eagles, 10-0.

“Pitchers dominated the strike zone, limited walks and held runners well in both games,” Coach Marc Niemeyer said.

On Tuesday, the Mules beat Napavine 7-6 in the semifinals of the district tournament.

“We battled till the end,” Coach Niemeyer said. “Terris (Record) pitched a heck of a game. Luke (Brown) came in for two innings and shut them down. James (Anderson) closed the door.

"At the bottom of the seventh, we were down by one. James (Anderson) walked, Ashden (Niemeyer) singled, Tristan (Collupy) knocked in James (Anderson) with a shot to right and Ashden (Niemeyer) at third. Walked the next two for the win."

The Mules will face Adna in the Southwest District 4 Championship game, which is scheduled for 4 p.m. on Saturday in Mossyrock.
