Distrit tournament starts Saturday
The Wahkiakum Mule baseball team continued their winning streak this week, beating Toledo and Toutle Lake on the road.
Last Thursday the Mules swept Toledo in a double header, 2-0 and 3-0.
James Anderson got the win for game one. He faced 21 batters in six innings. He struck out six and allowed two hits and no runs. Zach Brown pitched the final two innings, allowing no hits and no runs.
On offense, Ashden Niemeyer was 1-3 at bat and drove in one run. Anderson was 2-3 at bat. Zach Brown went 1-3 and Terris Record went 1-2 with a walk.
Zach Brown won the nightcap, facing 23 batters in seven innings. He struck out seven and allowed two hits and no runs. Terris Record was the closer, pitching the final inning. He allowed one hit and no runs.
On offense, Jacob Cavender and Luke Brown contributed one RBI apiece.
“We played phenomenal defense, and the pitchers were dealing,” Coach Marc Niemeyer said. “Offensively we had a bad approach and made a lot of base running errors.”
The Mules traveled to Toutle Lake on Tuesday. They won the first game 2-1.
Anderson got the win for the first game. He faced 25 pitchers in seven innings, allowing three hits and one run. He struck out 12. Closer Z. Brown pitched the final inning and allowed no hits and no runs.
Record hit a home run.
The second game, which was tied 2-2 at the top of the 11th inning, was called for darkness. The Mules returned to Toutle Lake yesterday (Wednesday), but the game report was not available by press time.
