Drug Take Back Event and New Permanent Drug Take Back Box
This Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., the Sheriff's Office in partnership with Wahkiakum Health and Human Services will be providing a Drug Take Back event at the Wahkiakum County Courthouse.
The take back station will be inside the door near the Superior Court Clerk's office. All prescription and over the counter drugs are accepted. Pills and other drugs should be placed in a zip lock bag with all personal identifiers removed from the packaging. No needles are accepted, however you are welcome to place them in the sharps container at the same location.
Also in partnership with Wahkiakum Health and Human Services, the Wahkiakum County Sheriff's Office is happy to provide county residents with a permanent drug take back box. The metal box which looks much like a blue post office receptacle, is secured inside the entrance to the court house near the Superior Court Clerk's office. You may now drop off unused or unwanted drugs safely at any time. After hours, you may contact the Sheriff's Office and they will buzz you in the door to access the box.
The days are longer and nights shorter with spring, which means more activity around the neighborhoods and near roadways. Please be conscientious while driving; watch for kids playing and people walking, and slow down on the residential streets. Deputies will be conducting traffic enforcement emphasis in areas where speeding is an issue.
One last reminder – if you haven't already, register your cell phones on our website for emergency notifications. Land lines are automatically registered but cell phones need to be manually registered. You will then be notified by our emergency notification system if we send out a message regarding a local emergency.
Have a safe spring!
