The Naselle-Grays River Valley School District Board of Directors met for its monthly meeting on February 21.
Principal Quinn Donlon shared that the knowledge bowl team will be competing in the State Tournament on March 11 in Arlington. He also notified the board that both basketball teams are advancing to regional play and earned a second place finish at recent Southwest Class 1B District Basketball Championships. The eighth grade basketball team recently finished an undefeated season, and the 6/7th grade team lost just one game.
Superintendent Nelson shared that Rognlin’s Inc. has been making good progress on the multi-purpose building.
Due to increased enrollment at the Naselle Youth Camp, the directors approved the hiring of Bertha Clapper and Gail Heppner as temporary, part-time secretary and teacher respectively to finish out the school year. The board also acknowledged the resignation of custodian Nick Zimmerman.
The board acknowledged a grant from the Templin Foundation of $22,500 for basketball hoops, hardware and adjusters for the new multi-purpose building. Also on the agenda was the acceptance of a $1,000 donation from Wahkiakum West for Mandarin Chinese and non-immersion studies at the K-4 level.
The board conducted an evaluation of the superintendent in executive session. After reconvening to regular session, the board extended the superintendent’s contract for a year.
The next board meeting is March 21 at the Middle School Commons.
