The Wahkiakum Mules boys basketball team went out with a bang last Friday. Though they ultimately lost, they put up a fight in the second half of the game, coming back from a 17 point deficit, to pull ahead momentarily and then lose 60-62 to Mossyrock.
"This game was just a great example of what our season has been like," Coach Todd Souvenir said, explaining that the Mules often spent the first half of a game trying to pull some kind of offense together and in the second half exploding into the team they were capable of being.
Hank Ferguson finished the game with 25 points. Santos Wright scored 11 points, hitting back to back threes in the third to pull the team within 10 points of Mossyrock. Evan Quigley had 10 points. James Anderson scored five points. He also lost a couple teeth when he got an elbow to the face. Luke Brown, K.C. Beery, and Casey Wilson added three points apiece.

Two days earlier, on Wednesday, the Mules traveled to Kalama and lost 45-71.

Coach Souvenir praised his seniors, Ferguson and Jacob Cavender. Cavender transferred to Wahkiakum for his final year of high school, and Souvenir was glad for his presence on the team.
Souvenir will miss Ferguson, who he described as a talented leader, athlete, and all around good young man.
"I'm very proud of them," Coach Souvenir said of the 2016-2017 team. "I'm proud of them all."
