Lady Mules end regular season undefeated

The Wahkiakum Mules girls basketball team began district play this week. The opening round was scheduled for Monday, but the games were postponed twice due to snow. As of Tuesday night, the Lady Mules game against Pe Ell was set for Wednesday at 7 p.m. at home.

The Lady Mules finished their regular season undefeated. They won 20 games this year, a new record, according to Coach Rob Garrett. They were 16-0 in league, 20-0 overall. They finished in first place in the Central 2B league and are ranked second in the Associated Press state poll for Class 2B schools.

Last Thursday, the team got their final win of the regular season in Mossyrock against the Vikings, 74-31.

“The girls played awesome,” Coach Garrett said. “ They got better and better throughout the game. It was really fun. They passed the ball really well and played as a team. Our rebounding was also much better tonight.”

Macie Elliott scored 25 points to lead the team. She also had nine rebounds, five assists, and five steals. Peyton Souvenir had 16 points, eight rebounds, nine assists, and eight steals. Savannah Burdick had 13 points. Mckensi Fluckiger scored 12 points. Ellie Leitz and Maddy Mace added four points apiece.
