This week, the Wahkiakum Mules boys basketball team got a win on the road but couldn’t hold off Kalama at home.
On Friday in a game rescheduled due to snow, the Mules lost to the Kalama Chinooks, 38-70.
The Chinooks are 4-1 in league, and in a three way tie for second place. They are also a tall team with five players 6’ and over.
“We played well in the first half on the defensive end,” Coach Todd Souvenir said, “but we had too many unforced turnovers and gave up too many easy transition points to stay close to a good Kalama team.”
K.C. Beery led the Mules with 11 points. Luke Brown had 10 points, Evan Quigley scored six, and Hank Ferguson added five. Isaac Moon had three points, Santos Wright had two, and Bryce Good added one more.

Brown had a big night for the Mules, scoring 25. He also had 10 rebounds, five assists, three steals, and one block. Ferguson added 14 points and five assists. Quigley had nine points and nine rebounds. Wright scored nine points and Beery had three.
“Hank and Luke carried us offensively in the first half scoring 27 of our 34 points,” Souvenir said. “In the third we struggled a little and the Vikings cut the lead to five but we regained our composure. Luke took over offensively, scoring 10 of his 25 points in the quarter to secure the win.”
