In Their Footsteps event set for December 18

Lewis and Clark National Historical Park, Fort Clatsop, has announced the next In Their Footsteps free speaker series event. On Sunday, December 18, at 1:00 p.m. Lorna Hainesworth will present The Corps and the War of 1812.

During the Corps of Discovery’s 1804-06 expedition, the U.S. Army was quite small as the country was in peacetime, but soon after, the War of 1812 with England began. Were some of the soldiers of the Corps of Discovery still in the Army? How did the war impact the civilians associated with the expedition? Maryland researcher Lorna Hainesworth was curious about connections between the Corps of Discovery and the War of 1812. She has recently authored a paper on this topic and is now traveling the country sharing the results of her research.

This monthly Sunday forum is sponsored by the Lewis & Clark National Park Association and the park. These programs are held in the Netul River Room of Fort Clatsop’s visitor center and are free of charge.
