Established as The Skamokawa Eagle in 1891
It was beginning to sound a lot like Christmas at the annual Winter Concert in the Wahkiakum High School gym.
The event lasted about an hour and included performances from Wahkiakum students from six grade to high school seniors. There were two solo performances, Emmi Grangroth on the piano and Jack Leavitt on the tuba.
Four sixth and seventh grade boys bravely performed a couple pieces that their choir had been practicing. There is always safety in numbers when it comes to group singing, and more than half of their fellow singers weren't there. They handled it well.
For the first time, Darla Mead, the music teacher at the school, had plenty of "strong" singers to fill out the 8th grade-12th grade choir. Encouraged by the numbers she was willing to try new things and challenged them to sing a round, and learn a tune in a different language.
She was also pleased to announce that one of her students, Hope Russell, had been selected to join the state choir.
Russell sings in the choir and plays guitar in the band.
