Change in store for library at Johnson Park

There are changes ahead for the library at the Grays River Valley Center at Johnson Park, Rosburg.

Because of a disagreement over access, Trudy Fredrickson, a founder of the library, has decided to withdraw the 9,000 volumes she furnished the library.

"I have made the decision to take my books out of the library," she told the county board of commissioners on Tuesday. "I only want what's mine."

The county board appoints the board of directors who manage the center. Commissioner Mike Backman is county commission's representative to the center's board of directors.

The center's board is trying to maintain security by controlling access to the lock codes, Backman said, and are really controlling access to the library, cafeteria and sewing room at the facility.

"Nobody disagrees that she can take her books," Backman said. "At the end of the day, it will be fine. They (the center's board of directors) have access to other books."

Fredrickson said it could take six weeks for her to locate and collect her books, which are mixed with books not belonging to her. She had planned to ask for a civil standby from the sheriff's department, but Backman said he would try to arrange his schedule to handle that duty.

"They'll have to close (the library) until she has her's out," he added.
