Down River Dispatches

By the time the paper is published this week, we will know the results of this unprecedented presidential election. Hopefully the nastiness, name calling, lying and other negative news will at least taper off. It would be nice to be able to watch real news again. I voted and I hope you did too.

The holiday season is upon us and the West End Food Pantry is looking to make the Thanksgiving and Christmas celebrations a little better for a few of our neighbors and their families with the "Fill a Feedbag" program. Items collected will help to fill Thanksgiving and Christmas baskets. Return by November 17t for the Thanksgiving Holiday or before December 15 for the Christmas baskets.

The Westend Food Pantry is located in the Grays River Valley Center at Johnson Park and is open on Thursdays, 1-5 p.m. each week. For more information or to pick up a bag call 465-2312.

The Rosburg Wednesday Senior Lunch Bunch meets every week in the Rosburg Hall for a delicious home cooked meal prepared and served by Pat Potter and her volunteers.

On Thursdays a senior meal is also served in the Rosburg Hall and it is sponsored by CAP. Lunch is served at noon both days.

Happy Birthday to Otis Hunsingr, Isabella Hodson, Abbie Eaton, Sarah Haataia and Cody Strange. Here’s to a perfectly wonderful day of celebrating.

Last Thursday another blood drive was held in the Valley Bible Church. I took the opportunity to step way out of my own comfort zone and gave blood for the very first time. It was a traumatic experience for me as my veins are extremely hard to find, but after all was said and done, I’m very proud of myself and happy that I can make a difference in someone else’s life by giving this life saving gift. Oh yes, I know there were at least two other first time donors as well. The company was great and the sliders were delicious, good enough for me to try it again.

This week ends with the country celebrating Veteran’s Day. The men and women in uniform, past and present deserve our gratitude for their unconditional support of our freedoms. So, my thanks go out to members of my family who have served, and every other vet who has served or is serving at this time. God bless you and keep you safe. Thank you for your service.
