WHS student athlete receives honor

Senior Makenzie Anderson was recently named the Wahkiakum High School Winner by the Wendy's High School Heisman for her mastery in and out of the classroom.

The program was started in 1994 as a collaboration between Wendy's and the Heisman Trophy Trust to honor students throughout the United States. Students are selected at each school in the first phase. Then a finalist from each state is chosen and so on.

Anderson was not a state finalist, but will receive a certificate and a patch for her selection as the high school winner.

Anderson is a 4.0 student. She plays volleyball and softball at WHS and participates in the National Honor Society, the Key Club, and FFA. She is also the ASB Treasurer, a Community Health Advocate and a member of the Link Leader Crew. She plays volleyball for the Cowlitz Volleyball Club. She would like to attend a four year university and pursue a career in the medical field.

"This student is known by her teachers and friends for her commitment to excellence," WHS Principal Stephanie Leitz said. "We are excited and honored that a program like Wendy's High School Heisman is recognizing her hard work."
