The Lewis-Clark State College women's basketball program added another piece to the 2017-18 roster on November 1 with the announcement that Peyton Souvenir of Cathlamet has signed a letter of intent to join the Warriors next fall.
"When you consider all of the things that she does well, there is no way you can overstate Peyton's potential as a college basketball player," said Warriors Head Coach Brian Orr. "She is one of those special players who have the ability to make everyone around them better."
A three-sport athlete at Wahkiakum High School, Souvenir starred on the hardwood for the Mules, earning first team All-State and Co-Central 2B MVP honors as a junior last season. She also earned team MVP honors after averaging 18.5 points, 7.7 rebounds, 6.3 assists and 5.5 steals per game en route to a fifth-place state finish.
As a sophomore, the 5-foot-7 point guard averaged 11.1 points, 6.1 rebounds, 4.2 assists and 2.9 steals per contest. She led the team with 88 assists, was second with 61 steals and 128 rebounds while her points and scoring average were third behind a pair of seniors. For her efforts, she earned second team All-Central 2B honors.
Souvenir also took part in the East-West All-Star game each of the past two seasons, was a team captain, earned the Coaches Award twice and received most inspirational honors in 2015. She is a member of the National Honor Society, has been on the honor roll each semester and served as the associated student body secretary.
"Peyton possesses all the qualities and skills we look for in a point guard," said Orr. "She has a high basketball IQ, excellent court vision, and is an outstanding ball handler. A "scoring" point guard, she is always a threat to knock down the three and she can get to the rim and finish with either hand. At the same time, she will punish help defenders with her ability to find the open player. In addition to her skills as a player, Peyton possesses team and leadership qualities that every coach admires and she represents the ideal of what we want our program to symbolize. We expect her to make an immediate impact next year as a freshman."
