Cross Country teams from Wahkiakum and Naselle High Schools competed in the District IV 1B/2B Championship in Onalaska last Saturday. The top 35 in the boys’ race and the top 28 in the girls’ race qualified for the state meet this weekend in Pasco.
There were 111 runners competing for the top 35 spots in the boys’ competition. Mule senior Alex Peachey Mellis finished the race in 23:26.63 and took 97th place. Sophomores Leif Carroll and Seth Kuljis were right behind him with times of 23:32.36 and 23:26.97 respectively. Carroll took 98th place and Kuljis finished in 97th place.
There were 93 runners competing for the top 28 spots in the girls’ competition.
The only Mule runner was senior Kyrah Scuito. She came in 90th place with a time of 36:43.27.
Several Comets competed in the girls’ run as well. Sophomore Lia Willenbrock took 41st place with a time of 23:16.41. Senior Rachel Disch finished in 47th place with a time of 23:35.76. Junior Micah Cenci finished in 25:05.11 and took 58th place, followed closely by teammate and sophomore Lindsay Hunt, who took 59th place with a time of 25:06.47. Sophomore Kim Gonzalez took 82nd place with a time of 29:21.91 and freshman Jazzy Fisher took 91st place with a time of 42:23.23.
