Down River Dispatches

Do we live in the “wild and wilder” northwest or what? This past weekend was certainly an eye opener as to Mother Nature’s power and ferocity. I thought I was prepared for just about everything, but it seems that wasn’t the case as far as my beautiful old walnut tree was concerned. I have no idea how old it was, but as I stood in my living room watching the wind and rain, that monstrous tall tree just decided to lay over into the yard below our house. It was surreal, as if in slow motion. It is like losing an old friend.

As I finish up this article, I am still flooded in with about a foot and a half of water over my driveway. Hopefully it will subside soon, but if not, we have everything we need for a while longer.

News from Naselle:

Students will be released early on Wednesday at 12:30 p.m. for an in-service day.

I want to give a heads up to the community about one of our local businesses. The Naselle Massage Clinic is operated by local resident, Bryon Parrino, and is an amazing, healing place. Bryon was one of the first therapists to work on my husband following his stroke, and he had a hand in some of his early progress through massage and craniosacral therapy. I highly recommend him and his techniques for healing and relaxing therapy, and he is reasonable in his pricing. I’m sure he also has gift certificates available for a thoughtful gift to the person who is hard to buy for. The holidays are coming, shop early and shop local.

The next “fun in Rosburg” blood drive will once again be held in the Valley Bible Church on November 3 from 12-6 p.m. A goal of 60 appointments may seem like a lot, but if any of the local blood drives can do it, this one can. Give Susan Burkhalter a call to make an appointment, contact the Red Cross, or just walk in. Laugh with your friends, enjoy April Zimmerman’s delicious sliders, and know that your donation will give someone a new lease on life. That is the reason I’m ramping up the courage (I’m a real chicken) to donate for the first time in my life. Hope to see you there.

For more info or to sign up, call Susan Burkhalter at 465-2264.
