Edna Blain

Edna Bettyjo Blain, age 87, died October 14, 2016. She was born February 24, 1929 to Alonzo Urban Clay and Gertrude Mildred Gragg Clay in Delano, Calif.

The family later moved to Portland, Ore., where she met and married Franklyn L. Blain. They moved to Los Angeles, Calif. In 1949 the couple moved to Rosburg, Wash. They lived their lives together there until Franklyn’s death in 1999. Later Edna moved to Mint Valley Apartments in Longview until her final move to the Canterbury Inn in Longview.

Edna’s occuupations included a waitress at the Grays River Inn, a bartender at Valley Tavern, caregiver for Franklyn until his death and a housewife. She loved spending time crocheting, sewing, square dancing and fishing. She spent hours sewing all their square dancing outfits.

Survivors include daughters Trudy L. (Chuck) Blain of Rainier and S. Lorraine (Tom) McNally of Cathlamet; sons Robert S. (Laura) Blain of Grays River, Jim M. (Karen) Blain of Benton City; 11 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; two sisters Ruth (Melvin) Scott and Dorothy (Fred) Catlin of Yakima; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband Franklyn, sisters Thelma Hornby, Bertha Hutchison, Virginia Duggan and Jean Bighill; brothers Earl Clay, Elmer Clay, Doug Clay, William Godfrey and David Godfrey.

A service will be held Friday, October 21 at Dowling Funeral Chapel at 1 p.m. with a reception at the Rosburg Hall at 3 p.m. Memorial contributions may be sent to Community Hospice, PO Box 2067, Longview, WA 98632.

Dowling Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
