Port District 2 may take ownership of Coffee Pot Island this year.
At a special meeting October 6, Coffeepot Island Holdings, LLC, Doug and Jill Martin, notified the port officials of their intention to donate the property to the district by the end of the year.
The 50-acre island lies between West Sunny Sands, Puget Island, and the Georgia Pacific paper mill at Wauna.
"This is truly a remarkable gift to the residents of Wahkiakum County and the public in general," Port Commissioner Lee Tischer said in a port news release.
"The generosity of the Martins will be a lasting legacy for generations to come," Commissioner Lori Scott said in the same release.
