Landowner wasn't informed prior to spraying

To The Eagle:

On Sept. 27 I had the misfortune of encountering the noxious weed control of Wahkiakum county starting to spray my land. They were commissioned by my neighbor who gave them permission to do so. As a result myself, my dogs and my tenant were sprayed with a highly toxic herbicide containing kerosene. The three individuals working were also exposed due to a lack of protective clothing or PPE's. Even after extensive communication they continued to spray. There was also absolutely no warning. Had we not been home the damage would have been devastating to our dogs and our landscaping. Unknown to the spraying crew they were an instrument to perpetuate an ongoing dispute I have had with my neighbor. I was advised by the police that all such activities were legal.

So this letter is to the citizens of Wahkiakum County to alert them that without warning, noxious weed control can show up on your property and spray your land regardless of pets or people present.

I encourage anyone with similar circumstances to contact the U.S.D.A and the WA State Dept. of Health. They take these matters very seriously and they want to hear from you.

I realize this is a necessary practice but there should be certain basic precautions to keep our community safe.

Thank You,

Shawn Sarff
