Commissioner Brett Deaton called a meeting at Port 1 last Thursday to let his fellow commissioners know that he had found a potential work boat for the dredge on Craigslist.
The seller, located in Depoe Bay, was marketing the craft as a 20 foot tug with a 100 horsepower, three cylinder diesel engine. It has fenders and comes with a trailer. The seller was asking $25,000, according to Deaton.
“I think this is worthwhile to look at,” Deaton said. “I’m going down there on my own dime. I’ll come back with a recommendation.”
“I think that that boat and trailer is a fantastic deal,” Commissioner Bob Kizziar said. “My concern is whether it is too single purpose for us or not.”
Deaton listed several options, including rentals or the transfer of dock fingers inside the marina.
The commissioners authorized Jackie Lea, the port manager, to hire a surveyor for the boat if Deaton believed the vessel would be acceptable for the port’s needs.
