The Wahkiakum Mule football team rolled to a 40-0 win over the Ocosta Wildcats last Friday to run their non-league season record to 2-0.
After a scoreless first quarter, the Mules put two touchdowns on the board to lead 14-0 at halftime. Quarterback Lucas Brown scored on a four-yard run at 7:45, and Hank Ferguson scored on a 25-yard run at 2:45. L. Brown ran the conversion.
The Mule defense provided some points in the third quarter. Evan Quigley returned an intercepted Wildcat pass 35 yards for a touchdown at 11:46, and James Anderson recovered a Wildcat fumble in the endzone for another touchdown at 9:06; Ferguson ran the conversion for a 28-0 Mule lead. Zach Brown closed out the quarter with a 12 yard touchdown run at 4:45.
Ferguson added another score on a 28 yard run early in the fourth quarter for the final 40-0 lead.
The Mule defense held the Wildcats to 27 yards lost rushing and 57 yards gained passing. Ocosta quarterback Matthew Hart passed 30 times and completed 14, with interceptions by Quigley and L. Brown.
On offense, the Mules gained 290 yards on the ground and 12 in the air. Ferguson totaled 173, Zach Brown 95, and James Anderson 36. L. Brown completed three of nine passes for 12 yards and one interception.
Ferguson led the defense with 14 tackles; Bryce Good had nine, Anderson eight, seven each for the Brown brothers, and six for Terris Record.
The Mules host 2-0 South Bend this Friday.
"It will be a tough game," Mule Coach Eric Hansen commented Monday. "They have two really good backs, and they run the veer option really well."
