Lady Mules split matches this week

The Wahkiakum Mules volleyball team split games with a loss in Napavine on Thursday and a win against South Bend at home on Tuesday.

"It was a tough match," Coach Kayli Hurley said of the non-league contest with Napavine. The team lost in three sets, 20-25, 16-25, and 16-25.

"Tonight helped to highlight a few areas of focus for our upcoming practices," Hurley said. "Our serving and unforced errors were our downfall tonight. We also struggled to get a consistent offense going. I look forward to getting in the gym for some hard work with the girls."

Makenzie Anderson and Macie Elliott had six and four kills respectively. Setter Peyton Souvenir had 11 assists.

"Amber Silva came in and made a couple of big serves for us as well," Hurley said, "which isn't always easy to do."

On Tuesday, the team hosted South Bend in a non-league match. The Mules won in three sets with scores of 25-20, 25-15, and 25-23.

"We started a bit slow tonight and had a little trouble finishing strong," Hurley said, "but overall it was a solid performance."

Anderson led the team with seven kills. Leitz had five kills and "some huge blocks."

Souvenir had 15 assists and Savannah Burdick was 100 percent from the service line with six aces.

The team's overall record is 2-1. The Mules travel to Mossyrock for a tournament this weekend.
