Down River Dispatches
Hooray for the rain. We really need it as everything has turned brown. Hopefully it will also help with some of the fire danger as well. It looks like some of the farmers are also feeding hay to their cattle, as the grazing is pretty much non- existent.

Westend news:
Our free Saturday Night Movie last week was a huge hit. I had the pleasure of accompanying my two grandsons, Emmett and Wyatt to the showing of Jungle Book. It was a delightful movie and a wonderful way to spend an evening with a couple of my favorite guys.
This week’s Free Saturday Night movie will be a 2016 show of the confrontation of two superheroes.
Concessions are available before and during the intermission of the movie. The show starts at 7 p.m.

With the beginning of a new school year, many families in our area are struggling to pay monthly bills, buy school clothes and supplies, as well as put enough food on the table for themselves and their children. Our local food banks strive to supplement these families in need by having extra food and incidentals on hand to help them get by. Our West End Food Pantry located in the Grays River Valley Center at Johnson Park is no exception. In addition to tax deductible cash donations, they can always use: boxed cereal, peanut butter, canned meat or fish, spaghetti and sauce, top ramen, mac-n-cheese, soups, canned milk, canned fruit and juice, cooking oils, canned corn, or other veggies, personal hygiene items pet food and cleaning supplies. Extra produce from your garden or orchard can also be donated and would be greatly appreciated.
Our West End Food Pantry is open on Thursdays from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Their 2nd annual Lasagna Feed will take place on September 24. You can purchase tickets at the food bank on Thursdays during the open hours. The meal will include lasagna, salad, bread and dessert for a donation of $10 for adults and $5 for kids 12 and under.
Proceeds from this event will benefit the West End Food Pantry. For more information please call Suzie Whalen or Shonda Ware.
