Established as The Skamokawa Eagle in 1891
Two team members from the local Robotics club attended the State Fair in Puyallup September 3 and 4. Julianne McKay-Beach and Michael Garstki qualified to attend by presenting at the Wahkiakum County Fair last month. Four other team members qualified but had prior commitments and could not attend: Alli Bennett, Cooper Prescott, Dalton Bruntmeyer and Sam Bouts. Chris Garstki, 4-H volunteer, chaperoned the team all day Saturday and Sunday.
For Julianne the best part was meeting new people who also had an interest in robotics. For Michael it was playing with the robots and showing others how ours worked. Julianne said "We were just talking around and someone mentioned Anime, and we went nuts, and all of a sudden we all knew we had just made great friends with common interests."
Terry Abbott, State Fair assistant manager, called Sunday evening to tell us that our team did very well talking up robotics and engaging many many patrons. She ended by saying, " Your team really earned their State Fair Premium Points. Thanks for being here." Chris Garstki summed it all up: "We are all tired. We had a good time. This was great exposure for our kids, for our robotics club, and for Wahkiakum."
