County wide food drive

The community is invited to participate in the 3rd Annual Food for Friends food drive. The food collected during the drive will be evenly distributed among the food banks of Wahkiakum County which are the Helping Hand, St. Catherine/St. Vincent de Paul, GAP and the Wahkiakum Food Bank.

The donations collected west of KM Mountain to Naselle will go to the West End Food Pantry located at the Grays River Valley Center at Johnson Park, 30 Rosburg Road.

The drive will be held Saturday, September 17 with a kick-off breakfast at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints chapel at 35 Messinger Hill Drive in Cathlamet. The breakfast will be served to those who wish to volunteer to go door-to-door to collect food for the drive. Volunteers are asked to meet at the chapel between 8:30-9:30 a.m. for breakfast and to pick up bags, door hangers and routes.

The River Street Meeting Room at 25 River St., will be open from 9:30 a.m. until all food collected is delivered to the River St. location by noon. Representatives from each of the food banks will collect their portions between 12:30-1 p.m.. Often their is more food to be collected than there are volunteers to collect. If by 11L30 a.m., your donatioon has not been picked up, call 360-747-1772 and arrangements will be made to pick it up, or if able, deliver it to the River Street location by noon.
