The Wahkiakum Mules volleyball team got off to a good start with a win against a 2A school, R.A. Long, on Tuesday.
The Mules won in five sets, 25-22, 23-25, 25-18, 23-25, and 17-15.
It was a hard fought match, according to Coach Kayli Hurley.
"All the sets were close," Hurley said. "It was definitely a well defended match all around. Both teams were scrapping balls off the floor and not letting anything hit the ground. There were some amazing rallies tonight."
Hurley had praise for several players.
Senior Makenzie Anderson had 11 kills. Macie Elliott had eight kills; Rayanna Carlon had six, and Ellie Leitz added five more.
On defense, Savannah Burdick picked up 16 digs.
Senior setter Peyton Souvenir had 15 assists and junior Grayci Thomas added 16 more.
"Tonight was a total team effort," Hurley said. "I'm proud of these girls."
The Mules travel to Napavine tonight (Thursday) but return home on Tuesday for a match against South Bend.
