News from Naselle:
Parents, students and staff of the Naselle Schools are invited to attend the Open House-Back to School BBQ on Wednesday, August 24 at 5 p.m. Meet the teachers and check out the students' classrooms. Hamburgers and hotdogs will be provided and parents are welcome to bring a side dish, dessert, soft drinks or chips. Here’s a great opportunity to build on a relationship with the teachers and visit with friends and families prior to the beginning of school.
Football practice began on the 17th, and volleyball and cross country practice begins on Tuesday, the 22nd. Teachers will be in the building on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday for work days prior to the beginning of classes on Tuesday, August 29. What happened to summer?
The Naselle Marimba Band will be performing in Long Beach for Summerfest on Saturday, the 20th at 1 p.m .; our very own local group of very talented kids.
Other news from the Westend:
The Wahkiakum County Fair is in full swing, as of today. Enjoy some extra special talent with Giants in the Trees on the stage this evening at 5 p.m.
Lots of fun to be had over the next couple of days at the fair. Bring the family and enjoy all the projects on display as well as the animals and competitions for prizes. I love our small fair. When our kids were little we would take them to as many of the small, out of the way community fairs as we could find. They loved it, in comparison to the big, expensive city fairs.
Need some produce? Don’t forget the Grays River Grange Farmer’s Market every Tuesday from 2-6 p.m. Great prices for delicious produce.
The West End Food Pantry is located in the Grays River Valley Center at Johnson Park and is open on Thursdays from 1-5 p.m. Non- perishable items are always needed. Soups, canned meats, cereal, mac and cheese, juices, etc. are a good choice for donation. Also, personal hygiene items, laundry soap, dish soap, paper goods such as toilet paper are sometimes needed. Monetary donations can also be made to help fund items that are not donated. For more information please call Suzie Whalen or Shonda Ware.
The Grays River Valley Center Library sponsors the Free Saturday Night Movies in the Grays River Valley Center at Johnson Park. The show starts at 7 p.m. and concessions are available before the movie and during the intermission. This week’s movie will be be rated in the R category, so not suitable for children.
The Rosburg Wednesday Senior Lunch Bunch meets each week in the Rosburg Hall for a delicious meal prepared by Pat Potter and her volunteers.
On Thursdays, CAP also provides a senior meal for our community members at the same location, and lunch is served at noon for both venues.

I am looking forward to a visit to Oregon for a few days, staying with my granddaughter, her husband and my two great grandsons. Will also spend some time with my daughter and son-in-law and with son and daughter-in-law. Hoping for the weather to be “not too hot.”
