Vancouver man dies in Sunday accident

A Vancouver man died Sunday afternoon in a one-car accident west of Skamokawa on SR 4.

According to a report from the Washington State Patrol, Sergey Saranchuk 53, was eastbound at a high rate of speed when he ran off the highway at Milepost 25.5. His 2012 Toyota Prius left the road off the eastbound shoulder, struck a telephone pole and several trees and to rest down a 40-foot embankment.

Saranchuk died at the scene. He was not wearing a seatbelt.

The cause of the accident is under investigation.
