Wahkiakum County law enforcement officers and emergency response personnel handled a variety of reports during the past week, including:
July 18 — 10:31 a.m. A caller reported finding a small dog in Cathlamet. 11:00 a.m. A Rosedale resident reported that an unknown dog was in his pool. 12:29 p.m. A security guard reported that the owner of a vehicle and bags of trash blocking a Weyerhauser gate in the Skamokawa area would not respond despite several attempts to make contact. 1:16 p.m. A caller reported a suspicious man possibly stealing mail in the Alger Creek area.
July 19 — 2:10 a.m. A Puget Island resident was concerned about his family’s safety because of repeated problems with a neighbor. He had put up cameras and had evidence of someone coming into his back yard. When asked if he had applied for a no contact order, the resident said he should not have to take time to do that and hung up. Dispatch called back and spoke with the wife. She agreed to speak with a deputy. 9:14 a.m. A caller from Vista Park reported that an unoccupied vehicle had been parked at a site for some time. A short time later, the caller reported that the vehicle was gone. 10:28 a.m. A caller reported a horse tied up with a short rope in a small field in Skamokawa. 3:36 p.m. A caller reported that some items had been stolen from his boat which had run aground on a jetty near Brookfield. 9:27 p.m. A Puget Island firefighter responded to the report of a large fire on Puget Island. A deputy responded when the resident would not let the firefighter onto his property. The deputy reported that the fire was in an approved pit.
July 20 — 10:09 a.m. A caller wanted advice about a junk boat that had been tied to his dock for a couple years. 12:37 p.m. A caller reported that she had been followed all over town by her boyfriend’s ex-girlfriend. 2:06 p.m. A caller reported an attempted assault in Cathlamet. 3:42 p.m. A Cathlamet resident complained about a neighbor’s dogs incessant barking. 6:19 p.m. A caller reported that two pitbulls attacked and killed her dog while she was babysitting in Deep River. The caller said the neighbor dispatched the dogs. She said she would notify the owner of the dogs. 8:17 p.m. A Rosedale resident complained that a neighbor screams at him and family every time they drive by due to ongoing property issues. 9:41 p.m. An individual with a warrant was taken into custody in Cathlamet. 9:52 p.m. A caller hung up after asking for help in the Eagle Cliff area. Deputies and the Cathlamet ambulance responded but could not locate the caller.
July 21 — 9:02 a.m. A caller reported that vehicles were speeding through Skamokawa on SR 4. 4:08 p.m. The Cathlamet Fire Department responded to the report that a sewer alarm had been activated in Skamokawa.
July 22 — 12:26 a.m. A burglar alarm was activated at a Puget Island home. The alarm company was unable to contact the homeowner. 12:43 a.m. A Puget Island resident reported a toxic smell. He believed that someone was burning something at night. He said he would speak to the health department. 6:11 a.m. A welfare check was requested for a boater who was anchored near Skamokawa. He was contacted and okay. 6:50 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Puget Island resident who may have had a stroke. 10:03 a.m. A Rosburg resident reported that an unknown dog had come onto her property and growled at her. She couldn’t get close enough to read its tag. 11:13 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Rosedale resident who was in pain. 1:00 p.m. A caller reported that someone had used a Hancock gate for target practice in the Grays River area. 2:07 p.m. A caller reported that someone had put half a watermelon into the Cathlamet library’s mailbox and ruined some mail. 3:38 p.m. A caller reported an erratic driver headed eastbound on SR 4. 4:29 p.m. A caller reported that there had been some malicious mischief at the library in Cathlamet between Saturday and Monday. There were two suspects. 6:13 p.m. The Skamokawa Fire Department responded to the report of a large fire in the Skamokawa area. The fire turned out to be a barbecue in a fire pit. 6:33 p.m. An alarm was activated at a Cathlamet home. The homeowner was notified. 8:47 p.m. A pig was loose on the golf course in Cathlamet again. The owner was notified and en route.
July 23 — 12:50 p.m. A caller reported that drivers were speeding through Skamokawa on SR 4. 1:11 p.m. A caller reported that someone who said he had a weapon was blocking them in with his vehicle at a Skamokawa residence. 8:49 a.m. Deputies were asked to be on the lookout for an individual with several warrants. 8:56 p.m. A caller reported a deer with a broken foot in the Rosedale area.
July 24 — 12:02 p.m. The Puget Island Fire Department responded to the report of a large fire on Puget Island. They didn’t find anything. 10:31 a.m. The District 4 Fire Department responded to the report of smoke coming from the backyard of an Elochoman Valley home. A second call came in at 10:35 a.m. 11:27 a.m. The Grays River Fire Department and the Grays River ambulance aided a Deep River resident with a lift. 11:39 a.m. A caller reported that a neighbor on Loop Road in Grays River was blowing cut grass onto the road. The caller was concerned it might be a hazard for motorcyclists. A deputy contacted the neighbor. 4:55 p.m. An individual was taken into custody after a vehicle stop at a Rosedale business. 11:47 p.m. A Puget Island resident complained about a bad odor, claiming it was the third or fourth night he had smelled it.
July 25 — 9:00 a.m. A Puget Island resident reported the theft of a boat motor. 10:49 a.m. An individual was seen shooting at a timber gate in the Grays River area. A deputy made contact with the subject who denied shooting at the fence. 5:54 p.m. A motorist complained that she was being tailgated by an 18 wheeler on SR 4. 6:28 p.m. A caller reported that a pitbull was wandering around a Cathlamet neighborhood. 11:20 p.m. A burglar alarm was activated at a Rosedale business. A deputy responded and found everything secure.
July 26 — 7:47 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Cathlamet resident who had fallen. 8:36 a.m. An alarm was activated at a Skamokawa residence. 11:11 a.m. A caller reported that there was a tree down on SR 4 just west of County Line Park. 12:55 p.m. A caller requested that a deputy drive by a Skamokawa home to check on a vehicle. 3:51 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Cathlamet baby who had been kicked in the head. 4:10 p.m. A caller reported that a vulnerable adult in the Elochoman Valley had been harassed. A deputy responded. 5:09 p.m. A caller reported that a cell phone had been stolen by a juvenile. 7:57 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Rosedale resident who had fallen. The individual refused help.
July 27 — 3:40 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Cathlamet resident who had fallen. 12:55 p.m. A caller reported that a car had become disabled on a Cathlamet street. Its hazard lights were on and a tow was en route. 2:35 p.m. The Grays River ambulance aided a Rosburg resident who had fallen from a ladder. 2:52 p.m. A caller requested a welfare check on several children at a Cathlamet residence after the report of neglect. 4:35 p.m. A caller reported that a son had locked his mother out of their Rosedale home during a quarrel. The caller called back five minutes later to say that the man had unlocked the door. 5:03 p.m. A caller reported an aggressive driver on SR 4 near Nassa Point. 5:46 p.m. A Cathlamet resident reported that his brother’s vehicle had been stolen by his girlfriend. The man was advised that his brother would have to make the report. 9:05 p.m. An Elochoman Valley resident complained that a parent in the community allowed their children to play in and around a campfire. The caller thought it was unsafe and did not want her children to think that this behavior was acceptable.
July 28 — 8:45 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Puget Island resident who was in pain after a recent surgery. 4:50 p.m. An alarm was activated at a Cathlamet business. A deputy responded and found the building secure. 4:53 p.m. An Elochoman Valley resident reported that a gun had been stolen. 6:26 p.m. Dispatch received a call from someone claiming to be a police sergeant from Walla Walla. He wanted to know who had made bail that day. A call was made to Walla Walla and there was no one working there with the name that had been given. They had a possible suspect after listening to the tape. 6:50 p.m. An individual was taken into custody after a domestic disturbance along SR 4 just west of County Line Park.
July 29 — 11:25 a.m. A caller reported that vehicles were speeding through Skamokawa on SR 4. A deputy checked the area. 1:26 p.m. A Skamokawa resident reported that an individual had returned and threatened them again. The man had a knife on his hip. 5:10 p.m. A caller reported that an individual with a no contact order had stolen a van from an Elochoman Valley resident. 5:43 p.m. Deputies, the District 4 Fire Department and the Cathlamet ambulance responded to a one vehicle accident on SR 4 in the Little Cape Horn area. The driver may have had a stroke. He jumped out of the ambulance at Baker’s Corner and took off on foot. 7:19 p.m. A cow was stuck in a drainage ditch on Welcome Slough Road on Puget Island. The owner made contact.
July 30 — 12:07 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Cathlamet resident who had cut his hand. He signed a refusal. 12:14 a.m. A caller reported that a window had been broken when someone tripped and fell against it at an apartment complex in Cathlamet. 12:40 a.m. A juvenile on a bicycle was stopped on SR 4 in the Elochoman Valley area. 7:58 a.m. The Grays River ambulance aided a Deep River resident with a lift. 9:49 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance, deputies and the District 4 Fire Department responded when a youth fell and suffered a head injury. Life Flight was en route. 9:56 a.m. A caller found a dog on Una Street in Cathlamet. 11:05 a.m. A Puget Island resident reported that an outboard motor had been stolen. 11:34 a.m. A caller reported that there was suspicious activity at Indian Village in Cathlamet. 7:32 p.m. A caller reported a big, loud party at a Cathlamet home. The caller was advised that nothing could be done until the noise ordinance went into effect. A second call came in at 10:18 p.m. The noise and music continued at the nearby home. A deputy reported that the band had stopped at 10:40 p.m. and that the subjects had been advised to keep the noise down. 11:27 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance responded when a caller reported that a Cathlamet resident was unresponsive.
July 31 — 12:03 a.m. An alarm was activated at a Rosedale business. The owner could not be contacted. 2:03 a.m. An alarm was activated again at a Rosedale business. A deputy shut the alarm off because the owner could not be contacted. 6:45 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Rosedale resident who was having difficulty breathing. 6:06 p.m. A Rosedale resident reported a sexual assault.
August 1 — 7:11 a.m. A caller reported that someone had broken the windows out of his vehicle parked at Vista Park in Skamokawa. 8:53 a.m. A caller reported that a vehicle had broken down and was partially blocking a lane on SR 4 near County Line Park. 11:34 a.m. A Cathlamet business reported a shoplifter. 12:38 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Cathlamet resident with a breathing problem. 1:48 p.m. A caller reported that petty cash had been stolen from Johnson Park in Rosburg. 3:02 p.m. An Elochoman Valley resident reported that an outboard motor had been stolen. 3:34 p.m. A Puget Island resident reported credit card fraud. 4:28 p.m. A caller reported a slow driver on SR 4 in Rosedale. 4:48 p.m. An alarm was activated on KM tower. 4:59 p.m. A caller reported that a family member had threatened to burn her house down. 6:40 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided an ailing Cathlamet resident.
