Established as The Skamokawa Eagle in 1891
From July 18-22, 10 a.m. to noon, an art camp for youth will be held at Tsuga Gallery, 70 Main St., Cathlamet.
Classes are open for students in grades 2-6. Students may sign up for one day or all five days. Each day will cover a different subject. Cost is $25 per day or $115 for all five days. The cost includes all supplies.
Experienced art instructor Debbie Thoma will teach the classes, bringing over 10 years of experience in elementary school art. She will be at the Tsuga Gallery on Bald Eagle Day, July 16, for a free demonstration where students can create a “make and take” piece of art and get an idea of what the upcoming classes will offer.
Descriptions of the classes are as follows:
· July 18: Color! Explore color using different art mediums. Students will paint, using oil pastels and sharpie markers to create abstract art using their name; geometric art; and a colorful ceramic tile trivet.
· July 19: Mad Science Art. Use exploding paint, frozen paint and pendulum painting to creat art, plus make a spinning top and an air powered rocket.
· July 20: SEW Much Fun! Sew by hand and on a provided sewing machine to create a colorful tote bag with a personal design on the front. Create a soft sculpture monster or pet to take home.
· July 21: Painting Fun! Use liquid watercolors to create an undersea inspired painting, acrylic paints to create an abstract design, and try out Japanese sumi ink painting.
· July 22: Sculpture & Art in 3D. Use wire to create a sculpture, make supersized paper sculpture food and design a robot or an alien on this day of 3-dimensional exploration.
Class sizes are limited and all registrations are due by July 17. Sign up at Tsuga Gallery.
