Established as The Skamokawa Eagle in 1891

Free lunches offered for youth

To The Eagle:

Attention parents with children 18 years and younger: The USDA has a program called Summer Food Rocks and this summer our kids 18 years and younger get to benefit from it starting this Tuesday!

From July 5 through August 17, every Monday through Thursday, lunch will be served at noon, free of charge to all kids 18 years and younger with no enrollment and no added requirements-including residence. Meals will be served and eaten in the JA Wendt multipurpose room. While the kids are there they will be able to interact with various members of our community as they eat a nutritious and delicious meal. Supervision is provided during the meal time (12-12:30 p.m.) but not beyond that, so please make sure your child or children have a plan where to go afterwards. Remember: all kids 18 years and younger will be served so if your kids have friends from out of town, they get to come too! This program is an equal opportunity provider.

We are excited to offer this opportunity to our kids and we appreciate the community support thus far in getting the word out. We are grateful for those involved in planning, serving and promotion. In order to help create and keep excitement, every day offers a different theme:

· Mystery Guest Mondays: See who from our community has come to have lunch with us!

· Treat Tuesdays: After lunch, get a coupon for a treat (free cookie, ice cream, etc.) from a local business.

· Wacky Wednesdays: Wear your craziest accessories (hat, purse, shoes, etc.) and receive a wacky gift.

· Thirsty Thursdays: Get a special cup at the end of lunch that is good for a free fountain drink at Maria’s.

We would like to say thank you ahead of time to the many businesses participating in Treat Tuesday. We also thank the Health Department and Wahkiakum on the Move for providing transportation for kids in Skamokawa. Kids will be picked up at the fairgrounds at 11:45 a.m. and brought to the school. The bus will pick up kids from the school at 1:30 p.m. and take them back to the fairgrounds. For details or to RSVP a ride for your child, call Wahkiakum on the Move at 795-3101.

If you want to know more about the lunch program or how to help, please call Danielle Hobbs at 849-4412 or email at wahkiakumsummerfood@gmail.com. Let’s help our kids have a fantastic summer!
