Established as The Skamokawa Eagle in 1891
The Julia Butler Hansen Municipal Swimming Pool is the place to be, if you ask Duncan Cruickshank, the pool manager and public works superintendent for the Town of Cathlamet.
There will be a 3-on-3 basketball tournament this year, a new offering that is the brainchild of head lifeguard Shane Souvenir.
Souvenir is joined by nine other lifeguards, and Cruickshank may be hiring a couple more this summer.
There are swimming lessons for all levels and ages, including adults. Swimmers can join a class or take lessons privately. Water aerobics is offered twice a day, as is lap swim.
The first session of open swim is from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Saturday. There is also an evening swim from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. Monday to Friday.
The pool can be rented for private parties.
Donations are always welcome, whether it's to help kids who can't afford swimming lessons or entrance to open swim. The pool is also accepting donations for equipment, or donations of equipment. They need goggles, fins, swim masks, and robust pool toys, according to Cruickshank.
Admission is $3 for children and seniors over 55, $3.50 for adults and $12 for an entire family. Season passes are available.
