Sheriff's Report, June 16, 2016

Wahkiakum County law enforcement officers and emergency response personnel handled a variety of reports during the past week, including:

June 6 — 5:13 p.m. A water outage was reported at several Cathlamet residences. The Public Works department was notified. 6:29 p.m. A caller reported that a fence was down on Greenwood and that cows were in the road. 7:37 p.m. A caller reported that a sewer alarm had been activated in the Skamokawa area. 7:59 p.m. A caller reported a possible hit and run accident on Puget Island. Damage to a guardrail was found the next day. 8:40 p.m. A Cathlamet resident reported that an inebriated family member was trying to take a juvenile from the premises. 11:26 p.m. A caller reported a power outage at an east county home. A second call came from another home nearby. The PUD responded and restored power a couple hours later. 11:41 p.m. A juvenile was returned to his mother.

June 7 — 1:40 p.m. A caller who was concerned about a parent’s rumored drug use requested a welfare check on a juvenile in a Grays River home. A deputy made contact and found no evidence of intoxication. He asked why the kids were not in school and offered to take them when the parent said she had transportation issues. The school principal was notified of the situation. 3:46 p.m. A caller reported a driver speeding on SR 4 in the Deep River area. 10:08 p.m. A caller asked to go to jail, stating that “life sucked.” Dispatch noted that he was drunk. A mental health representative was sent to the Cathlamet home when the man threatened to hurt himself.

June 8 — 2:41 a.m. A caller reported a confused and disoriented man at a Rosedale business. He was reunited with his family. 8:24 a.m. A caller reported that a juvenile had been assaulted by an older juvenile at the school in Cathlamet. Someone from the sheriff’s office spoke with the students, the parents and the principals. A disciplinary plan was put into action. 9:39 a.m. A wind surfer’s helmet was found near Little Cape Horn. 10:09 a.m. A caller reported a boat adrift in the Columbia River downriver from Willow Grove. 12:20 p.m. A Grays River resident reported a theft. 11:15 p.m. The Cathlamet Fire Department responded when a fire alarm was activated at a Cathlamet address. It had been activated accidentally.

June 9 — 12:46 a.m. After hearing gunshots, a Rosburg resident became concerned about a neighbor who had been drinking and was having mental health issues. A deputy responded and the individual was taken into custody. 12:40 p.m. A burglar alarm was activated at an east county home. A deputy responded and found an open door. He secured the home. 12:43 p.m. The Puget Island Fire Department responded when a caller reported that a breaker box blew in a Puget Island home. 2:15 p.m. A Cathlamet resident reported that her front door had been barricaded by beer cans, lumber and a garbage can. 3:14 p.m. A Rosedale resident requested assistance after locking her keys in her home. 4:57 p.m. In an agency assist, a deputy was asked to check out a Puget Island resident’s car to see if it may have been involved in a hit and run accident in Longview. 8:49 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Cathlamet resident who had a seizure. 8:58 p.m. A caller reported that there were cows loose on a Skamokawa road.

June 10 — 3:15 p.m. A caller reported that he found his boat, which had been stolen a year earlier, at the marina in Cathlamet. 5:49 p.m. An alarm was activated at an east county home. 6:29 p.m. Two calls came in about a large rock blocking the westbound lane of SR 4 just west of County Line Park.

June 11 — 12:34 a.m. The District 4 Fire Department and the Cathlamet ambulance responded to a traffic accident that was reported near County Line Park. They were called off when Cowlitz County advised that they would handle it. 9:41 a.m. A caller complained that a neighbor’s dog was killing rabbits. A deputy made contact and told the caller there was nothing he could do. 9:52 a.m. A burglary was reported in the Rosedale area. 1:03 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Cathlamet resident. 1:08 p.m. An inmate at the county jail assaulted another inmate. The Cathlamet ambulance responded. 3:54 p.m. A caller reported an erratic driver in the Deep River area. 3:59 p.m. A burglary alarm was activated at a Puget Island residence. A deputy checked the home and found no signs of a forced entry. 4:41 p.m. A burglary alarm was activated at a Puget Island home. The owner was contacted. 6:36 p.m. An alarm was activated at an east county residence. The owner could not be contacted.

June 12 — 12:17 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Rosedale resident who could not stop vomiting. 12:58 p.m. A Cathlamet resident reported that there were people at his home even though he wasn’t there. A deputy made contact with the individuals who had been employed to change locks and do some cleaning after a foreclosure. A deputy called the homeowner and advised he contact his lawyer about what was a civil matter. 1:57 p.m. A caller reported that sheep had gotten trapped in a fence in the Skamokawa area. 3:45 p.m. A caller reported that cattle were loose on a Grays River road. 6:50 p.m. The Grays River ambulance aided a Grays River resident.
