School year ending; blood drive is next week

Down River Dispatches

Tomorrow is the last day of school for our students in the Naselle-Grays River Valley School District. Congratulations to all the students for another great year of hard work. Best of luck to all the graduates, and to everyone, enjoy a fun and safe summer.

Next Wednesday, from 12:30 to 6:00 p.m., you still have the opportunity to save a life at Valley Bible Church. Another Blood Drive is on for the famed Rosburg group. If you need or want an appointment call Susan Burkhalter or just stop by the church on Wednesday during the scheduled hours. As usual you can enjoy sliders made by April Zimmerman. The goal this time is 55. Save a life, give blood. Thank you Susan, April, all the other volunteer and especially the donors.

A few notes and updates from the Johnson Park Advisory Board and the Grays River Valley Center. The new board members include Carrie Sweeten, Denise Blanchard, Daniel Smith, Kimberly DeJesus, Shonda Ware and Dee Nikkila.

The Johnson Park Advisory Board meets on the first Wednesday of each month at 12:30 p.m. for their regular board meetings, and the public is invited.

The 1st Annual Pre-Father’s Day Breakfast will be held on Saturday, June 18, 7-10 a.m. in the Grays River Valley Center at Johnson Park. On the menu will be pancakes, ham, fresh fruit, orange juice, milk and coffee and the meal is free to all in celebration of fathers everywhere. Donations will gladly be accepted.

The GRVC morning coffee club meets Monday through Friday 7-9 a.m. in the cafeteria.

The board is actively looking for individuals to host classes, do presentations and as always volunteers.

If you or your organization have any questions regarding rental to scheduling events (anything) please call Carrie Sweeten G.R.V.C. 465-2310 or 465-2318.

This Saturday’s free movie here is an all-star comedy set during the latter years of Hollywood's Golden Age. It follows a single day in the life of a studio fixer who is presented with plenty of problems to fix; the film is rated PG-13.

Concessions include popcorn, chips, nachos, candy, pop and, every other week, pizza. The show starts at 7 p.m.

Here is an update from our local Food Pantry: School is almost out folks! During the summer months the West End Food Pantry sees an increased need for more "kid friendly" foods. Kids who would normally get breakfast and lunch at school may not regularly get those meals at home during the summer. Please help us to help our neighbors by donating. A few good choices are breakfast cereal, peanut butter, jelly, bread, top ramen, canned lunches like Spaghettios, tuna or other canned fish or meats, spaghetti and spaghetti sauce, fruit juice, shelf stable milk, granola bars, soups, canned fruit. Food donations can be brought to the food pantry at Grays River Valley Center at Johnson Park, drop boxes are located just inside both entrances, or items can be left with Lori at the Naselle Post Office. Become a regular contributor and send monthly monetary contributions to PO Box 55, Rosburg, WA 98643. Your tax deductible receipt will be mailed to you. Thank you! Have a great summer!

The West End Food Pantry located in the north end of the Grays River Valley Center is open on Thursdays from noon to 5 p.m.

If you would like to donate cash or non perishable goods to the organization you can contact Shonda Ware or Susie Whalen.

For information on upcoming events and movies check out the new website for the Grays River Valley Center at Johnson Park, graysrivervalleycenter.wordpress.com or call 360 465-2310.

A look ahead to the Community Pot Luck/Picnic on July 10 from noon to 5 p.m. This annual event takes place at Johnson Park. Bring the family for an afternoon of good old fashioned fun. Food will start being served at 12:30 p.m. Bring a dish to share. We are also looking for donations for a silent action to be held on that day, as well. More information in the coming weeks.

The Rosburg Wednesday Senior Lunch Bunch meets every week in the Rosburg Hall at noon for a delicious home cooked meal prepared and served by Pat Potter and her volunteer staff.

On Thursdays, CAP sponsors a meal for seniors in the Rosburg Hall as well. Lunch is served at noon for both venues.
