Sheriff's Report, June 2, 2016

Wahkiakum County law enforcement officers and emergency response personnel handled a variety of reports during the past week, including:

May 23 — 7:28 a.m. A Cathlamet resident called to report that her cat had been killed by a shot to the head. 10:14 a.m. A boater near Coffee Pot Island requested help after a line got wrapped around his propeller. The Coast Guard was notified. 11:29 a.m. An individual was taken into custody after a vehicle stop. His vehicle was towed. 11:36 a.m. A Rosedale resident reported that a no contact order had been violated when a third party approached her on the second party’s behalf. A deputy spoke with the third party. He denied it. 3:27 p.m. A resident on the east end of the county complained that someone had dumped chemicals on his lawn. He had been gone for the winter and was upset to find dead grass and tire tracks in a section of his yard.

May 24 — 2:12 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Rosedale resident who had fallen. 10:24 a.m. A Rosedale resident reported that she was being harassed. 11:48 a.m. An Elochoman Valley resident got out of his shower just in time to see a man exit his garage and get into a truck. 12:28 p.m. Three individuals were taken into custody for a burglary in the Elochoman Valley. 1:23 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Cathlamet resident who was having trouble breathing. 5:40 p.m. Two separate reports came in about an individual behaving strangely on Puget Island. One said that the man had jumped out of the bushes at him as rode past the man’s home on his motorcycle. A deputy made contact with the man. He said he was upset about vehicles going well over the 25 mph speed limit. The deputy reminded the man that the speed limit was actually 50 mph in front of his home. The individual said he was okay and asked the deputy to leave. 8:15 p.m. A caller who was out of town had heard about the recent burglary in the Elochoman Valley and asked a deputy to check her home. A deputy did and found everything secure.

May 25 — 11:40 a.m. A caller complained about a vehicle parked partially in the crosswalk and partially in the handicap zone in Cathlamet. The driver received a citation. 7:22 p.m. An Elochoman Valley resident had a complaint about a parenting plan. 10:18 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Cathlamet resident who was having chest pain. 11:36 p.m. An alarm was activated at a refuge building in the Elochoman Valley area. Dispatch attempted to contact a responsible party.

May 26 — 7:51 a.m. A caller reported that two horses were loose on Puget Island. 9:04 a.m. Perjury was reported. 3:47 p.m. A caller requested a welfare check on a Puget Island resident. 10:31 p.m. A Cathlamet resident reported a computer scam.

May 27 — 2:31 a.m. The Grays River ambulance aided a Deep River resident who was having trouble breathing. 2:39 p.m. The Grays River ambulance aided a Rosburg resident who was pregnant and having abdominal pain. 6:57 p.m. A caller requested a welfare check on a family in the Elochoman Valley. 8:31 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Puget Island resident who was having an allergic reaction. 9:29 p.m. A caller asked a deputy to do a walk through at a Skamokawa restaurant. 10:23 p.m. An individual was given a field sobriety test during a vehicle stop in the Elochoman Valley. He was taken into custody.

May 28 — 7:02 a.m. A caller reported that there was a power outage in the Rosedale area. 9:25 a.m. A Skamokawa resident reported that a horse had been stolen. 9:39 a.m. The Grays River ambulance aided a Deep River resident with breathing problems. 10 a.m. A Greenwood resident reported that a black bear had just walked through his property and was headed towards town. 11:32 a.m. A juvenile reported that his mother’s boyfriend was trying to break into the home. A deputy responded and spoke to the two adults involved in what was a domestic dispute. The boyfriend planned to return to get his property and a standby was requested. 12:21 p.m. A caller complained about a dog jumping out in front of traffic in Cathlamet. 2:22 p.m. A caller reported that a vehicle had broken down and was parked on the fog line of an Elochoman Valley road. A tow truck was en route. 7:51 p.m. The U.S. Coast Guard called to ask if a deputy would let them know if there was still a jet skier on Coffee Pot Island who needed assistance. 9:47 p.m. A resident who was out of town reported that her estranged husband had called, making threats to destroy her personal property and to harm himself. A deputy attempted to locate the man and another contacted a domestic violence advocate for the caller.

May 29 — 8:32 a.m. An alarm was activated at a Cathlamet residence. 1 p.m. A resident spoke with a deputy about a neighbor who had been inappropriate and confrontational. A no contact order was advised. 2:47 p.m. A caller reported that a float house had been beached. Dispatch made contact with a man on the float house who said that the home was being towed from Portland into West Birnie Slough when the wind had blown it onto the beach at low tide. He had help and they were waiting for the incoming tide so they could pull it from the beach. 3:39 p.m. An alarm was activated at a Cathlamet bank. A deputy did a perimeter check and found everything secure. 4:56 p.m. A caller reported a possible drunk boater. 5:07 p.m. A caller reported that someone was shooting guns on Puget Island. He was not certain of the laws and asked to have a deputy contact him. 5:26 p.m. A caller saw a motorist toss a beer out the window of his vehicle on a Grays River road. The vehicle was located, pulled over, and an individual was taken into custody after taking a field sobriety test. 6:47 p.m. A caller reported that someone had been firing multiple weapons in the Elochoman Valley for more than a half hour. 7:18 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided an inmate at the county jail. The inmate had a gash on the head after allegedly being assaulted by another inmate.

May 30 — 6:56 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Puget Island resident who had fallen out of bed and hit his head. 11:19 a.m. A caller reported that a vehicle had broken down on SR 4 in the Rosedale area. 12:57 p.m. A caller complained that he was unable to back down a boat ramp at a Skamokawa park. A deputy responded and found that because there was no signage and because it was private property, the park staff was responsible for the matter.
