Established as The Skamokawa Eagle in 1891
To The Eagle:
Memorial Day was originally called "Decoration Day" and while communities across the United States would hold local events the first large event was held in 1868 at Arlington National Cemetery where participants honored the men who died during the Civil War. It wasn't until 1971 that the U.S. Congress changed the name to Memorial Day and made it a national holiday to be held on the last Monday of May.
In preparation for Memorial Day the Seal River Cemetery Board and community members gather to clean the cemetery the Saturday before Memorial Day.
We would like to thank the following people for assisting: Sandra (Wirkkala) Davidson, Richard and Gail (Wirkkala) Heppner, Dan and Paula (Somero) Kandoll, Greg and Kari (Teeter) Kandoll, Kristina (Kandoll) Perez, Gene Strong, Mary (Kandoll) Vik, Peter & Annelise Vik, Bekalyn, Samuel, Josiah, Anna, Stephen, Christina and Benjamin Zimmerman.
Without everyone's help the cemetery wouldn't look good when families visit and the American Legion displays flags on veteran's gravesites.
Kari Kandoll, Secretary
