Track and field athletes head to district meet

Last Friday at sub district in Napavine several members of the Wahkiakum Mules track and field team qualified for another post season event and kept their hopes alive for state competition.

According to Coach Eric Hansen, the top four placers in the running events as well as the top six in the field events qualified for the district meet, which will be held Friday (tomorrow) in Raymond. The only two events that don’t fit this general rule are the 1600 and the 3200, which take the top six contenders.

The following athletes have qualified for their respective events:

Ryan Quigley cleared 5--06 in the high jump and took fifth place.

Grace Peacock placed fourth in the 100 meters with a time of 13.39.

Rory Heywood took fifth place in the high jump, clearing 4--06, and fourth in the triple jump with a distance of 31--03.

Tyra Elliott finished the 400 meters in 1:05.49 and took third place.

Ellie Leitz competed in the 800 meters and took fourth place with a time of 2:37.42. She also took third place in the triple jump with a distance of 31--11.5.

Macie Elliot took second place in the 1600 with a time of 6:03.66.

Trinity Klecker took fourth place in the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 18.78.

Charlie Ashe took fourth place in the 300 meter hurdles with a time of 54.03. She also took fourth place in the high jump, clearing 4--06.

Tarah Wisner finished in sixth place in the shot put with a throw of 29--08.

Mckensi Fluckiger took third place in the long jump with a leap of 14--09.5. She also took fifth place in the triple jump with a distance of 30--07.75.

The 4 x 100 team of Barton, M. Elliott, T. Elliott, and Peacock took second place with a time of 53.94. The 4 x 200 team of Barton, T. Elliott, R. Heywood, and Peacock took second place with a time of 1:52.49.
