The Wahkiakum Mule baseball team suffered their first loss last week in a double header with Toutle, 0-3, but they quickly turned it around and won the second game 7-3. The Mules’ record is 5-1 in league and 7-1 overall.
Terris Record took the loss in game one, pitching three of six innings. He struck out three, but Toutle got four hits and scored three runs. James Anderson pitched the final three innings and struck out four batters.
On offense, Anderson hit a double.
“Toutle’s ace had great command, only allowing two walks,” Coach Marc Niemeyer said. “We made some base running errors, but that’s baseball.”
Zach Brown pitched five innings and got the win for game two. Toutle got six hits and one run against him. Anderson pitched the final two innings.
On offense, Z. Brown went 2-5 and drove in two runs. Record hit a double and drove in two more runs. Anderson and Cody Terpsma added one RBI each.
“Zach (Brown) did a great job keeping the ball down through five innings,” Niemeyer said. “He created a lot of ground ball outs and kept hitters in check. James (Anderson) came in for the save and did a great job. That’s a lot of pressure for a freshman and he loved it. Colton Mace ran some well hit balls down in center that would have dropped without his wheels.
The Mules return to play on Saturday in Onalaska.
