This week’s Free Friday Night movie is a recently released kids movie about the world of dinosaurs telling the story of an Apatosaurus named Arlo with his human friend. I want to give everyone in the area some great news. The Grays River Cafe has been purchased by a local family and will reopen soon. I will update with more details as they become available.

Most of the readers already know that the Johnson Park Advisory Board is in need of more board members. If you are a person with time, energy and willing to work on a worthwhile project, then please contact the Wahkiakum County commissioners office and fill out an application.

The three board members who recently resigned from board positions (including myself) have been working in one capacity or another for more than a decade to make the old Rosburg School a real community center for all to enjoy. It was a coincidence that the three of us resigned at about the same time, and the reason was not due to friction among the board members. In fact, I think that this board worked very well together. Our resignations were due to personal obligations outside the Grays River Valley Center at Johnson Park.

One more comment regarding GRVC at Johnson Park, it was mentioned at the meeting in Rosburg that certain people “took ownership” of certain projects at the center and didn’t let others have input. If “taking ownership” means putting your time, heart and soul, and money in some cases into something to make it better for others, then maybe it was true. I know personally how many times we all wished for help from outside our small group of regular volunteers. If we hadn’t done all we did to pay the bills, the center wouldn’t be available to all who use it today.

I want to thank every person who has ever volunteered even an hour to GRVC, every sponsor and their family for using the facility, to all the folks who have rented the facility either monthly or for special occasions, to all the people who have held public meetings there and especially to the community for helping us make this old school and the grounds a special place.

It’s time for some new ideas and new faces to bring this center forward. The remaining members of the board are fantastic but they can’t do it alone, so now’s your chance to step up to the plate, and finish what has already been started.

The Rosburg Wednesday Senior Lunch Bunch meets each week in the Rosburg Hall for a home cooked meal prepared and served by Pat Potter and her volunteer crew.

On Thursdays, a senior meal is also served at the same location and is sponsored by CAP. Lunch is served at noon for both venues.

Thank you for being such an awesome parent to our lovely “Annie” and for making many of my days with your “Chicken Mama” stories. You are an amazing person and I’m so proud to call you friend.
