The young Wahkiakum Mule golf team traveled to Riverside Golf Course in Chehalis and shot a four-person score of 206 finishing second to Adna 191 and besting South Bend 235, Raymond 232, and, both incomplete, Willapa Valley and Napavine.
Sophomore Bryce Good finished third out of the 24 players, and junior Sarah Shi 50 finished fifth. Freshman first-year player Zach Johnston had a personal best 52 in only his 18th appearance at any golf course. Eighth graders Tyler St. Onge 56, Elijah Doiron 63 and Gage Horman 66 completed the card for the Mules.
The Mules moved their intra-conference head to head record to 7-5. The next match is today (Thursday) home at Skyline Golf Course.
The Mules' season record dropped last week to 3-4 after posting a four-person total 229 to Ilwaco's 191 and North Beach's 224.
The day started and ended in heavy rain and wind; however the majority of the round was sunny and fair. Unfortunately the young Mules showed their inexperience as Surfside Golf Course turned out to be a major challenge for all of them. Only Good had been there once before, and he led the Mules with a 53. St. Onge shot 54, Shi 58, Horman 64 and Johnston shot 66. Ilwaco's Blake Kukula medaled with a 38.
